Crownpoint, NM – Seven student-athletes are joining the Navajo Technical University Cross-Country Program as it expands its roster for the upcoming season.
The incoming runners come from diverse communities and fields of study, bringing unique individual goals and background experiences to the team:
- Adrian Roanhorse: A former high school cross-country runner pursuing dual studies in Automotive Technology and a Legal Law Certificate, returning to competitive running to test their potential.
- Avery J. Velasquez: A multi-disciplinary student (Counseling, Law, Criminal Justice, General Studies) graduating in December, who runs to relieve stress, spend time outdoors, and maintain a connection with the land and Native running traditions.
- Elxcia Smith: A resident of Ganado, Arizona, studying Diné Culture with plans for graduate studies, whose primary focus for the season is tackling every challenge and completing each race.
- Kayden Isaac: A Leupp, Arizona native pursuing an Associate degree in Construction Technology, returning to the sport to represent NTU in competition.
- Keitha Harvey: An Animal Science major from Lukachukai, Arizona, and a multi-sport athlete in cross-country, basketball, softball, and rodeo (also competing on the NTU Rodeo Team).
- Shanelle Smiley: An active student-athlete competing in both cross-country and women’s basketball at NTU.
- Wes Morgan: An enthusiastic addition to the program, excited to join the NTU Cross-Country team.
These new additions reinforce NTU Cross-Country’s mission to encourage athletic participation, fitness, and institutional pride as students work toward their degrees.
