Nine Navajos Narratives Book Presentation

Crownpoint, NM – On October 22, 2026, the NTU Diné Studies Program hosted a special presentation featuring Dr. Lukas Denk, co-author of the book Nine Navajos Narratives. Dr. Lukas Denk, who also serves as an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics at Navajo Technical University, co-wrote the book with Melvatha Chee.

During his presentation, Dr. Denk highlighted several stories featured in the book, which includes annotated historical and cultural texts in Navajo. He explained that the texts were carefully selected to represent a diverse range of themes and genres, including political and historical narratives, individual experiences and adventures, and traditional knowledge. Dr. Denk also shared insights into the writing and publishing process, explaining that the project took approximately 1.5 to 2 years to complete.

Following the presentation, Dr. Denk participated in a Q&A session, answering questions from attendees who joined both in person and virtually through Zoom. To conclude the event, attendees had the opportunity to purchase copies of Nine Nations Narratives at a discounted price, with Dr. Denk personally signing them.
