Throughout the day, participating students showcased technical skills through practical activities such as drafting topographic maps, charting elevation profiles, plotting water tables, analyzing chemical contamination, and conducting water-quality testing. Attendees also completed an interactive hydrology quiz and engaged directly in the hands-on water filtration challenge.
Furthermore, students visited informational booths hosted by the NTU Biology program, the New Mexico Rural Water Association, the New Mexico Mineral Museum, and others to explore future opportunities. Recognition and prizes were awarded to those who completed booth visits and finished the filtration challenge.
Dr. Chhabilal Regmi, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and mentor to N4WPP student researchers, organized the event. Coaches from each high school assisted throughout the day to ensure seamless operations.
A special mention goes to Michael McMillan from NTU Recruitment for arranging an insightful campus tour. Guided by NTU staff and students, attendees visited the trades building and fabrication lab, attended presentations, and participated in interactive demonstrations highlighting the university’s focus on innovation, technology, and scientific discovery.
We extend our gratitude to everyone who joined our fifth N4WPP Water Challenge!
