Navajo Technical University

Duncan, AZ – On September 20-21, 2024, the Fall 2024-2025 Rodeo season kicked off at the Greenlee County Fairgrounds, and it was a blast! As part of the NIRA Grand Canyon Region, we had the honor of competing with visiting schools such as Central Arizona College, New Mexico State University, University of Arizona, Mesalands Community College, and others.

Our talented NTU rodeo athletes showcased their skills in a variety of events. There was an impressive roster of participants, including five saddle bronc riders, four bareback riders, ten bull riders, ten tie-down ropers, six steer wrestlers, ten teams in the team roping, ten barrel racers, nine goat tyers, and ten breakaway ropers, all of whom gave it their all in the competition.

NTU is thrilled to report that Isaiah Tom nailed his bareback ride, scoring an impressive 64 points in the short round and securing 2nd place. Breakaway ropers all roped their calves, but only Ashley returned with her 3.0 to compete in the short round. Bull riding Cimmaron rode his bull for a 71 score and placed 3rd. Isaiah competed in bareback with no score.

Coach Pino couldn’t be happier with the performance of our breakaway ropers. She expressed her delight in their successful roping and fantastic times at the first rodeo of the season.

Our teams are gearing up for the upcoming college rodeo event at Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, NM, on October 11 and 12. The excitement is palpable, and we’re ready to bring our A-game again!

Go Skyhawks!
