The Student Support Services Department is dedicated to providing students with the best support services possible. As a proponent of the Dine Philosophy of Education (DPE), the Department offers a variety of student services as presented herein.

 

1. Residential Services- the Residential Services Program consists of two (2) efficiency apartments for single students, and family housing (32 units) for students with dependents. These housing accommodations are available for full-time students (12 credit hours or more), and for student beyond a 60 miles radius of the College. A student must make a housing application with the Residential Services Manager to be considered for campus student housing. Certain housing application requirements must be met including:

 

  • A completed student housing application
  • Letter of Admission to Navajo Technical College
  • Government or State Identification Card
  • Housing Security Deposit

 

It is the student’s responsibility to initiate the student housing application process. Contact the Residential Services Program at (505) 786-4175 or 5960 for any information or questions regarding the student housing application process. Office hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday.

 

A Residential Services Handbook is available to students residing on campus, and which Handbook outlines the College’s student tenant expectations and compliance with rules and regulation including applicable College policies and procedures. A student orientation is held at the onset of each academic semester by Residential Services to ensure that student tenants are informed of their role and responsibilities. Residential Services student representatives serve on the NTC Student Senate.

 

2. Student Life and Activity Program- the Student Life and Activity Program provides students with higher learning activities including recreational, competitive collegiate sports, and intramural sports, and as follows:

a. Student activities for all students; on and off-campus.

b. Intercollegiate Sports program: Cross Country Track Team, Rodeo Team, Intramural Sports, Volley Ball, Basketball Team (men and women), and Archery Team.

c. American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) Student Congress participation. Other activities include the AIHEC Tribal Colleges/University scholastic competitions.

 

a. NTC Student Senate- the NTC Student Senate represents the total College student population at the main campus (Crownpoint, NM) and Chinle Site (Chinle, AZ). The Senate provides student leadership development activities, and sanctions a variety of student clubs and organizations including Student Camera Club, Native Drum Club, AISES Club, NTHS Club, Student Native American Church.

 

 

3. Intercollegiate Sports Program- the NTC Intercollegiate Sports Programs include:

 

  • NTC Rodeo Team- the NTC Rodeo Team is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and competes with colleges and universities in the four-corners States (Grand Canyon Region: NMSU, ASU, U of A, and Dine College). The Rodeo Coach is Mr. Jackson Craig, and may be contacted at (5050) 786-4311.
  • NTC Cross Country Team- the young team is in its third year of becoming established as an intercollegiate cross country racing team. There is much promise for this particular sports team with a nationally recognized and experience Athletic Coach, Mr. Abraham Bitok. He may be reached at (505) 786-4378.
  • NTC Archery Team- the College Archery Team is very young and in its formative and development stages. The Team competed at the 2010 American Indian Higher Education Consortium sports competition and was recognized as a beginning team among tribal colleges in the nation.
  • Men and Women Basketball Teams- The men and women basketball teams have been competitive in the Four Corners region. The teams have played other colleges and have been successful as young teams.

 

4. NTC Student Senate- the NTC Student Senate is a student governance organization which represents all students enrolled at Navajo Technical College. The Senate elects its officers and Senators at the beginning of each academic year with student representation from all interest group within the College infrastructure. The Senate operates in accordance with its Student Senate Constitution and by-laws. Ms. Darcia Muskett is the Senate Advisor.

 

The Student Senate is credited with the selection of the College logo, College colors (red, black, and white), and College mascot (Sky Hawks).

 

The Senate sanctions student clubs and organizations that will operate throughout the academic year (August-May). Some of the student clubs and organizations include 1) Camera Club, 2) Native American Church Club, 3) The NTC Drum Club,

 

The Senate provides sponsorship of campus events and activities for students while participating in student leadership development opportunities while in office.

 

The Senate President serves as a voting member on the NTC Board of Trustees by virtue of his/her elected position. Mr. Jaime Henio, Law Advocate Student, is the Senate President (2009-2010). Program oversight is provided by Mr. Jackson Craig, Coordinator, Student Life and Activity Program.

 

5. Miss Navajo Technical College (NTC) - Miss NTC is an ambassador-at-large for the College and portrays a key role model in representing students attending NTC. The incumbent will attend College sponsored activities/events, and delivers encouraging messages of higher learning and goodwill. Ms. Roxanne Thompson, Public Administration Program, is the current reigning Miss NTC. Miss NTC works in close consultation with the Student Senate and Coordinator, Student Life and Activity Program. An NTC female employee accompanies Miss NTC during most social functions, in particular; off-campus events.

 

6. Maintenance and Operations Program- The Maintenance and Operations Program is responsible for all College buildings and provides custodial services to ensure that facility support services are in sound and functional condition. The Maintenance Services entails all mechanical and physical maintenance on campus including campus beautification projects. The Custodial Services provides daily custodial services for user safe and sanitary conditions in dispensing a healthy environment for campus use by faculty, staff, students, and visiting public. As such, the Program

 

The Coordinator is Mr. McKeever Curley, and the Supervisor is Mr. Hank Newman. Their extension numbers are 14172 and 14188; respectively.

 

7. Campus Security Services-The NTC campus security services is an outsourced services provided by Chief Security Services, Farmington, New Mexico. Student Support Services Department is given the charge of the security services and which services are overseen by Mr. Byron Charlee, Manager, Residential Services Program. Chief Security Services also provides a Supervisor (Mr. Russell Jim) as one of its officers. The NTC Campus Security Services provides and ensures a safe and secured environment for the College community. The Security Services participates in all facets of safety and security planning and development. Campus foot patrols are common, and the security surveillance is on a 24/7.
