Navajo Technical College continues serving the Navajo Nation by expanding its educational offerings to Chinle, Arizona. Beginning in August 2006, NTC began by offering five courses with the intention of expanding the number of classes for the 2008-2009 academic years and beyond. The Chinle Instructional Site is located in Chinle, Arizona in the northeastern part of the state and on the Navajo Nation. The site occupies temporary offices in Chinle and holds classes in the facilities of Chinle High School by agreement with the school district. Fifty acres of land has been identified that will be the site of the future permanent branch campus. Library and research services at the Chinle Instructional Site is primarily supported by electronic means (Internet connectivity between Chinle and the NTC main campus at Crownpoint) but future development of a full library containing printed and other media resources is in the immediate plans. The future also holds the implementation and development of on-line learning as an important new component of the Chinle Instructional Site. The programs at the Chinle Instructional Site are designed to serve those students from the rural areas and surrounding communities of Chinle, Arizona, to provide a non-residential opportunity to partake of higher education endeavors. This is an important development in establishing healthy community relations. 146 Courses in the areas of English, math, Diné studies, pre-professional nursing, carpentry, law, early childhood development, and computer technology are among the many courses being offered at the Chinle Instructional Site. Information and enrollment procedures can be acquired by visiting the Chinle Instructional Site at East Navajo Route 7, or by calling (928) 674-5764.
